International Day of Service and World AIDS Day
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. holds the issues of the International community close to her heart. Chapters across the world simultaneously recognize and act upon the major concerns that plague countries around the globe such as the water crisis in Africa. The Madison County (MS) Alumnae Chapter hosts workshops to enlighten the public on what can be done to assist others around the planet. The chapter hosts activities around the county on World AID Day. World AIDS Day is held on December 1, each year and is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV/AIDS, show their support for people living with the disease, and to commemorate people who have died. The chapter’s activities are designed to promote awareness of HIV/AIDS among members of the Madison County community, including high school students. Guest speakers, including health care professionals and community leaders, provide valuable information and statistics regarding HIV/AIDS and the impact of these diseases within our communities, particularly among African Americans.
